Aura

Out Now!

New Release!

“Aura” is a far cry from the vintage, big band sound of Emily’s March release, and takes on a cinematic quality, backboned with warm vocals, ethereal synths and pounding drums. In the lyrics, she relates her own love story to the myth of Ariadne who after being seduced and abandoned by Theseus, is found by Dionysus, God of wine and pleasure. They fall in love and on their wedding day Dionysus takes Ariadne’s jeweled crown and throws it into the sky, creating a constellation called the Corona Borealis. With a sound world inspired by the stars, “Aura” shines with the peace and joy reflected in this myth and is meant to mimic in music, the pure love between the characters.

Listen up.

Two years after her last release, Emily Sara re-enters the scene with a new single, “Let Go of Losing You.” The song speaks to the fear of falling in love and the courage it sometimes takes to let a good thing happen. A ballad with a vintage, pop/R&B feel, Emily Sara blends poetic lyricism with soulful vocals to bring the listener on a journey inspired by personal experience and Bonnie and Clyde’s tragic love story.

mismatch

‘Mismatch’ is a visual EP that explores identity and belonging through multi-genre songwriting. This is Emily Sara’s first all original project and was born out of her experience moving to the Midwest as an East Coast raised Middle Eastern/German Jewish woman. Feeling like an outsider and eventually meeting others who had similar stories led to a celebratory EP of songs and visuals that represent her identity and those of the people who gave her a new sense of belonging.

“Each song on this EP constantly surprises, because it includes so many different genres, beats, instruments, and musicians…each song also makes the audience feel so many emotions.”

Unpenned

Produced by Stretch Your Eyes Productions, Unpenned is a film about a female singer discovering her voice in a world defined by the male composer’s quill. It is told from the perspective of a vocal performance student preparing for her senior recital during a pandemic and explores baroque and romantic styles, eventually moving into contemporary art song, alternative rock and R&B as the student realizes the expanse of narrative and musical forms through which she can express herself. With this musical journey comes an exploration of female characters, some operatic, and some I’ve created based on stereotypes of women as depicted in films, musicals, books and other forms of literary narrative. Each woman brings her own struggle and sense of power to this journey of self-discovery.
